SELEECTED COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

Poetry Night
Liszt Institute Seoul, Seoul, South Korea
April 11, 2024
A curated installation of Simon-Mazula’s paintings was presented at the Liszt Institute Seoul for the celebration of Hungarian Poetry Day. The event convened representatives from leading Korean cultural and academic institutions — including Hyupsung University; the Changwon KC International Literary Festival; Korea University; the National Academy of Arts of Korea; and the Society of Korean Poets — situating the artist’s work within a distinguished intercultural and interdisciplinary discourse.

Performance and Artist Talk
Szent-Györgyi Agora, Szeged, Hungary
November 13, 2019
An audio-visual performance created by writer and aesthetic theorist Zsolt Palfalusi, integrating projected paintings by Simon-Mazula. The program was accompanied by the artist’s live commentary and an extended public dialogue, offering a rare insight into the conceptual and material considerations shaping his practice.

Finissage — Pure Beauty
Munkácsy Mihály Museum, Békéscsaba, Hungary
October 11, 2019
The closing program of Pure Beauty featured an in-gallery conversation between the artist and curator-art historian Hajnalka Ván. The event, followed by a musical performance by the SzücsInger duo, unfolded within the museum’s exhibition spaces, emphasizing the spatial, atmospheric, and interpretive dimensions of the installed works.

Audio-visual Performance & Book Launch — Tibor Simon-Mazula's Artistic Practice
FUGA – Budapest Center of Architecture, Budapest, Hungary
September 19, 2019
A multi-layered program marking the publication of Pure Beauty brought together projected imagery from the artist’s oeuvre with contributions by writer and aesthetic theorist Zsolt Pálfalusi and musician-psychologist Zoltán Kőváry (Eötvös Loránd University). Images and ideas unfolded in real time, creating a subtle dialogue between visual practice and theoretical reflection, framed within a space of a major architectural and cultural institution.

Book Launch — Pure Beauty: Paintings of Tibor Simon-Mazula
Munkácsy Mihály Museum, Békéscsaba, Hungary, August 16, 2019

Within the museum’s galleries, the launch of Pure Beauty was accompanied by an improvised audio-visual performance by Zsolt Pálfalusi. Photographs from the artist’s life and practice unfolded alongside typed reflections appearing in real time — an exploration not of what a painter intends, but rather from what a work arises. The program offered a distilled encounter with the forces that sustain artistic creation.

Opening Event of the Fall Cultural Festival
Csabagyöngye Cultural Center, Békéscsaba, Hungary
October 1, 2018
As the inaugural program of the Fall Cultural Festival, this event brought together a piano performance by Hungarian-American musician Péter Tóth with large-scale projected works by Simon-Mazula. In his public address, the artist reflected on subjectivity, perception, and the limits of categorization within contemporary artistic discourse, framed by a leading regional cultural institution.

Live Portrait Painting Battle
Emerald Tablet Gallery, San Francisco, CA, USA
February 13, 2013
A live collaborative portrait session with Bay Area artist Trius Fernsler, staged at the Emerald Tablet Gallery. The performance emphasized improvisation and dialogic process — positioning the event within the broader context of experimental artistic practices in the San Francisco art scene.

SELECTED FILM SCREENINGS

Before turning fully toward painting, Simon-Mazula developed a distinct moving-image practice whose experimental films, animated works, and hybrid documentary shorts circulated internationally. These screenings trace the early formation of his visual language—marked by material sensibility, rhythmic structure, and an interest in perceptual experience—that later became central to his pictorial work.
